Pro Bono Practice

Meagher Emanuel Laks Goldberg & Liao, LLP is committed to supporting access to justice in the United States. Through the firmís pro bono initiative, we provide pro bono legal services, financial support, and volunteer time to those most in need within our communities, with an emphasis on the areas of asylum and immigration, domestic violence, as well as children and civil rights.

In order to achieve the best results and expand the reach of our pro bono efforts, the firm has established partnerships with a number of non-profit organizations and community partners, including Kids In Need of Defense, Physicians for Human Rights, and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Princeton University. Their continuous support has been invaluable to us.

We treat our pro bono work the same as our billable work, applying an equal amount of dedication, enthusiasm, resources, and quality standards. This year alone, the firm has collectively devoted 500+ hours on pro bono matters. Our attorneys have spent much of their time preparing court pleadings and applications for relief, conducting client and witness interviews, defending clients during asylum interviews and court hearings, and obtaining expert reports. Their efforts and skills have already led to outcomes that transformed lives, including winning asylum for Central American children fleeing gang violence and persecution, and obtaining Special Immigrant Juvenile Status for a Nigerian child who had been the victim of parental abuse and abandonment.

The firmís pro bono practice is led by InŤs Zamouri. Ms. Zamouri graduated valedictorian from the Sorbonne Law School (University of Paris), and with honors from the University of Oxford. She has worked in France, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and has conducted extensive and award-winning research in the area of human rights.
